San Diego, California

Scottish Mist took photos of Seafire underway, although the seas look fairly calm, we had a 9-11ft swell which resulted in some interesting photos of the top of the mast, and nothing else! This one was taken when they were on the top of the swell, so things look quite normal! We were motor-sailing with a light wind on our quarter.
Around 7 a.m. Doreen radioed to say they were being treated to an amazing dolphin display, and sure enough a few hours later, as we sailed past the same area, we spotted hundreds of dolphins leaping and playing.  They all headed over to the boat and swam in our bow wave for about an hour and you could clearly hear their squealls of delight under the water.
This is the view from Shelter Island across San Diego Bay, with the city in the distance.  Shelter Island is a beautiful area with hotels and marinas and plenty of palm trees.
The promenade on Shelter Island looked out to the Bay anchorage and a great view of the many yachts sailing on the weekend with their colorful spinnakers.  The island is kept so clean that even the palm frongs are cleaned up as soon as they blow off the trees!
This is the 'Star of India' which was originally built in England in the early 1900's and is now an exhibit in the city.  The boat takes sailing trips around the Bay, which can get pretty busy at the weekends with other yachts out for a pleasure sail.
The impressive Marriot Hotel is dwarfed by the new double block of the Hyatt, and they really are impressive buildings.  The skyline of San Diego is really pretty and they obviously spend a lot of money on public art, judging by the display of 'urban trees' along the whole of the sea front.  These various sculptures were clever interpretations of trees, built from various materials and fascinating to look at.
This is the view from the Cruisers anchorage, as the sun goes down.  We had magnificent sunsets across the city, followed by a fantastic light display, as all the buildings were decorated for Christmas.
We spent Christmas day aboard Scottish Mist, with Bob and Doreen.  We shared the cooking, bringing roast lamb and roasted potatoes and parsnips from our barbecue, and joining their roast chicken, green beans and all the dressings!  Pumpkin pie and bread pudding was baked by Doreen, and as you can see, a fantastic table setting!!
